For the first time since its launch back in 2016, the Tag Heuer Carrera Heuer 02T has ventured into new territory but getting a new colour and strap material option. Arguably one of the more favourite colours in watchmaking is blue, which is what Tag Heuer has chosen to use on this new Carrera Heuer 02T. Ever since its initial release, Tag Heuer has opted to use darker and golden tones for their Carrera Heuer 02T timepiece with this being the first time the Swiss brand leaning more towards a vibrant rich blue colour.
Design:
The Carrera Heuer 02T comes in a 45mm titanium grade 5 polished and fine-brushed case. For this latest piece, Tag Heuer has given the tachymeter bezel a ceramic blue polished blue finish, along with a blue rubber titanium grade 5 standard crown to match the blue throughout the rest of the watch.
Tag Heuer has given this model a blue sunray brushed finish for the dial, which looks quite stunning when paired with the rhodium-plated indexes and hands. The sunray brushed dial also provides different tones of blue when rotated under a light. The dial itself features two rhodium-plated chronograph counters; a minute counter at 3 o’clock and an hour counter at 9 o’clock. At the 6 o’clock position is where the blue tourbillon is placed.
Movement:
The Carrera Heuer 02T is a symbol of technology and beauty coming together. The movement inside the Carrera Heuer 02T is Tag’s own calibre Heuer 02T. The movement puts out a frequency of 28, 800 VpH. The tourbillon is quite special too, as it uses an ultra-light carbon and titanium tourbillon cage. One of the biggest challenges that the watchmakers at Tag Heuer manufacture faced was housing the chronograph functions, the self-winding mechanism and the flying tourbillon all within a calibre diameter of 31mm. This is in addition to making sure that the dial wasn’t overly complex or messy and that sufficient distance between the sub-dials was provided.
Tag Heuer has used this movement in their previous Carrera Heuer 02T models, however, the exception with this new limited edition model is that the bridges of the tourbillon cage are given a blue finish to match the look of the overall watch. On the case back of the watch, the calibre Heuer 02T movement can be seen, especially the oscillating mass which has now been given a blue PVD coating.
The final touch to this beautiful piece is that this limited edition model now comes with a grade 2 titanium bracelet. The previous models were given a sporty alligator strap sewn on black rubber or soft rubber, however, Tag Heuer has chosen to go down a more classy and luxurious route with the new titanium bracelet. Not only a better appearance, but the titanium bracelet is also light, making it easier on the wrist.
