Omega has just released an absolute stunner of a timepiece for their latest 2021 collection. For those that love all black timepieces, look no further. Omega has given their famous diving watch, the Seamaster Diver 300m, the dark side treatment by donning the timepiece in the blackest black.
Released back in 1993, Omega has now for the first time given the Seamaster Diver 300M collection this treatment by utilising the versatility of ceramic and the different shades of black that can be used to create from it on this timepiece. In fact, on this watch, besides the strap, almost every outer component is made from ceramic, from the case to the dial, to the buckle.
Design:
As a way of symbolising the darkest depths of the ocean and to truly create a sense of deepness, Omega has made the 43.5mm polished-brushed case from black ceramic [ZrO2]. While almost having the appearance and finish of a matte black, the case still gives off an impeccable shine that stands out from the more subdued black tones throughout the rest of the watch. To make sure that all parts of the watch blend in with each other smoothly, the watchmakers at Omega have made the crown and the helium escape valve from black ceramic as well. The uni-directional bezel features a laser-ablated black ceramic ring with a polished diving scale in positive relief.
The dial as we would expect is given the all-black treatment as well. However, the readability of the dial is not overly impacted thanks to some clever thinking by the watchmakers. Usually with all-black timepieces, while they look beautiful, readability and practicality usually come off worse. Omega has combated this issue of ensuring visibility is kept intact by introducing anthracite Super-LumiNova to the diving scale, the hour indexes, and also the skeleton hands. In the dark readability, won’t be an issue at all as the Super-Luminova will take over. By using anthracite Super-Luminova, the hands and essential markers are given a dark-grey effect, which stands out enough against the black ceramic [ZrO2] for the legibility of the dial to be possible.
Omega has for the first time laser-ablated close to all details of the black ceramic dial. This includes the minute track, inscriptions on the dial, the Omega symbol to the iconic waves of the Seamaster Diver.
Movement:
The movement used inside this all-black Seamaster Diver 300M is the brand’s own Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806. This Calibre 8806 movement has been certified to the industry’s highest standard for precision, performance, and magnetic resistance by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). The movement puts out a frequency of 3.5hz (25, 200 Vph) and a minimum power reserve of approximately 55 hours. Through the case back glass, the Calibre 8806 movement can be seen in full action.
Omega has ensured that this latest Seamaster Diver 300M Black Black has stayed true to the 300M’s original design meets all requirements for dive watch functions. While being mysterious yet stunning being donned in all black, the new Seamaster Diver 300M Black Black is not only easy on the eye but easy to read as well.
