Seiko Australia and Kentaro Yoshida came together for an unforgettable night, celebrating the fusion of art and timekeeping.
Seiko Australia last Thursday hosted an exclusive event at Hiatus Studio in Brookvale Sydney, to showcase the highly anticipated Kentaro Yoshida collection. This special event brought together watch enthusiasts and fans of the acclaimed Japanese-Australian artist to celebrate a unique fusion of horology and contemporary art. For this collaborative project, Kentaro Yoshida also created a specific artwork, “Time Goes by Forever”, which encapsulates the concept of time as an endless cycle, shown through nature’s ever-changing elements.
Kentaro Yoshida’s artwork for this collection draws upon natural motifs such as Clouds & Sky, Sun, Moon & Beach, and Wild Plants & Flower, to capture the essence of growth, change, and the inevitable passage of time. These artistic elements have been beautifully integrated into the dial of the three timepieces, showcasing the cyclical nature of existence, where the sun rises and sets, waves continue to roll in, and clouds drift across the sky.
During the event, the attendees had the opportunity to get up close with the three timepieces in this latest collection trying them on for a more personal experience. Kentaro Yoshida officially introduced the evening alongside Daniel Findlay from Seiko, who guided guests through the inspiration behind the artwork and the three new timepieces. The event space was adorned with Yoshida’s artwork as a stunning backdrop, immersing guests in the visual narrative that defines this collaboration.
Adding to the overall artistic atmosphere of the event space, Kentaro Yoshida displayed a surfboard that was painted with an intricate design that further reinforced the collection’s connection to nature and the coastal lifestyle. The surfboard also directly ties in with the SRPL25K: Clouds & Sky timepiece, which has an artistic depiction of a skeleton with a surfboard on the dial, symbolizing the eternal flow of time and the beauty of life.
As a tribute to Yoshida’s creative vision, attendees had the chance to take home exclusive merchandise, including t-shirts that capture the essence of the collaboration. This thoughtful touch allowed fans to carry a piece of the event with them, reinforcing the artistic and thematic depth of the collection.
Overall, the event at Hiatus Studio was a resounding success, bringing together art, timekeeping and storytelling. Once again, Seiko delivered an immersive experience in unveiling their latest timepiece (the last one being the Alpinist Australasian Limited Edition, released late last year. This time, Seiko and Kentaro Yoshida celebrated fine watchmaking and encouraged attendees to reflect on the passage of time and how we choose to embrace it.
