TAG Heuer unveils the exquisite Carrera Chronograph collection: introducing striking new designs that combine luxurious elegance with sporty sophistication, redefining the iconic TAG Heuer Carrera line.

With LVMH Watch Week well and truly underway, TAG Heuer, Zenith and Hublot have unveiled their latest creations, including some pieces that have demanded the spotlight. One of my favourite releases from TAG Heuer is the Carrera “Glassbox” Chronograph Tourbillon. While it’s not a completely new design, that dial colour has been changed to give a fresh new look to the timepiece. And this is entirely okay. With so many watch fairs happening throughout the year, we cannot expect brands to release new timepieces with substantial design changes every time. In saying that, however, TAG Heuer, for this latest release of Carrera “Glassbox” Chronograph models, has tweaked the design to present a precious new look!

As you may know already, TAG Heuer presented a compact 39mm Carrera model in the 1960s and 70s that featured a domed sapphire crystal. Then, recently, in 2023, the brand decided to bring this look back and make it a permanent design change to the modern Carrera styling. For one, I love the addition of the Glassbox style sapphire crystal. It takes away the signature tachymeter scale of the Carrera that we have been used to for so long and gives it a fresh, contemporary look. The curved sapphire crystal enhances visibility and preserves the original Carrera’s essence, marrying classic design with modern advancements.

The newest chapter of this Carrera “Glassbox” Chronograph story brings two new precious models: a powdery pink or blue dial with a diamond-set flange and chaton diamond indexes. Under the domed sapphire crystal of the glassbox design, the diamonds retain their brilliance – to be fully appreciated from all perspectives.

Both models are presented in the signature Carrera Chronograph case, with the classic pump-style chronograph pushers and the faceted lugs that slope downwards for a better fit on the wrist. Like with all modern Carrera models, the case features a mix of finishes which include vertical-brushed finish on the side profile of the case and polished finishing on the top surfaces. This gives the case an elegant and luxurious look, with the watch shinning beautifully at different lighting angles.

The highlight of these new Carrera Glassbox Chronograph timepieces is the “new” dial design. I say new because even though it’s the same layout as previous Bicompax Carrera Chronograph models, this is the first time TAG Heuer has presented these dials with diamonds. The dials, as mentioned earlier, are either a beautiful deep blue colour or a light pink dial that borders on beige. Both models (as standard with Carrera Glassbox Chronogprahs) feature a sunray brushed dial. This finish is more prominent on the pink dial, with the dial changing from light to darker tones being more noticeable.

While the deep blue dial’s sunray brushed finish is more subtle, where the timepiece shines is the colour’s contrast with the diamonds. The blue dial acts as a perfect background for the diamonds to really stand out and shimmer gracefully. On the other hand, the powdered pink dial has a more subtle appearance as the diamonds, especially the hour indices, blend in more with the lighter tones of pink. TAG Heuer has removed the minute track/tachymeter scale on these models to feature 72 brilliant-cut diamonds on the flange, totalling 0.45 carats. The rhodium-plated hour indices have also been replaced to feature 11 chaton diamond indexes, totalling 0.107 carats.

Both these models retain TAG Heuer’s Carrera Chronograph movement, TH20-00, which was first introduced with the new range of Carrera Glassbox Chronograph models back in 2023. The TH20-00 movement replaced the brand’s iconic Heuer 02 movement. This automatic movement features a column wheel and vertical clutch mechanism and has high accuracy as it beats at 4Hz (28,800 VpH) while giving out an impressive 80-hour power reserve.

Final Thoughts

These precious new TAG Heuer Carrera Glassbox Chronograph watches are great additions to the Carrera collection, for those who want a bit more luxury appearance on a sporty timepiece. TAG Heuer offers both timepieces in dial-colour matching leather straps, with the signature blue model being paired with a dark blue alligator leather strap, while the powdery pink version comes with a matching calfskin leather strap, completing a stylish yet elegant look.

Both new models retain the signature styling that makes the Carrera collection iconic, which now includes the domed sapphire “glassbox” that enhances legibility and provides a seamless, vintage-inspired profile. With the addition of diamonds, it introduces a refined and feminine expression of the Carrera spirit while maintaining a versatile appeal,
