Omega Seamaster Diver 300 “James Bond Limited Edition”

by Chamath Gamage

James Bond has been wearing Seamaster models as early as 1995. The Omega Diver 300 Co-Axial Master Chronometer has been created as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film ” On her Majesty’s Secret Service”. This is more than just a tribute timepiece, however. The features of this watch have been designed using Omega’s most advanced materials and techniques, something we could see even “Q” creating for 007 himself when celebrating this occasion.

The dial of the Omega Diver 300 “James Bond” limited edition is what stands out at first glance. The spiral-brushed black ceramic dial has been given a laser engraved gun barrel design which is an iconic theme to Bond’s film intro’s. Little hints to “007” are shown throughout the watch in various parts of the dial. At the 12’oclock position, we get the Bond family coat of arms, placed on the hour marker itself. The date disc holds a special tribute to James Bond as well, with the number 7 on the disc produced in the iconic 007 font. You’ll be treated to this unique feature on the 7th day of every month!

The most secretive feature, however, is the number 50 hidden in the Luminescent material on the 10 o’clock hour marker itself, representing the 50th anniversary. This is definitely a feature that has a secret agent feel to it, as the number 50 will only be visible when the luminescent lights up, i.e. in dark/un-lit situations. Other notable features include 18k yellow gold used for the hour markers, hands and the coat of arms. The 42mm stainless steel casing consists of an 18k yellow gold screwed in plate on the side, which has engraved on it each model’s individual number out of the limited edition range. The black ceramic bezel looks very sharp, with the diving scale being done in white enamel.

The movement powering this 007 timepiece is the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8800. This movement being self-winding produces a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. Another features of the Omega Calibre 8800 is its incredible precision, magnetic resistance of 15,000 gauss and reliable performance.

The Omega Calibre 8800 has been approved by METAS and is a certified Master chronometer. The movement has a Rhodium plated finish with Geneva waves in arabesque, which can all be seen through the open case back. The case back also includes the Bond family’s coat-of-arms which has been metallised in gold and black. It definitely adds to the appeal of the watch and keeps with the black and gold colour theme throughout the watch.

The Omega Diver 300 “James Bond” limited edition comes packed in a 007 inspired presentation box. Inside there is an additional stainless steel bracelet along with a strap changing tool, and a stylised carry pouch carrying the Bond family’s coat of arms. Having the option of a second strap definitely gives more flexibility to be able to wear to different occasions. With a limited release of just 7007 units, the Omega Diver 300 “James Bond” limited edition will be an appealing gadget for 007 fans.
