Omega is giving their Speedmaster collection some bling with two new Bi-Colour models in stainless steel and Moonshine™ or Sedna™ Gold!
There are not many watches out there that are as iconic as the Omega Speedmaster. In terms of recognisability, it’s up there with the likes of the Rolex Submariner, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, and the TAG Heuer Carrera to name a few. All very different watches, but icons of their respective brands. Sometimes you don’t want to play around too much with the classics, but sometimes, you should! And this is what Omega has done with the 42mm Speedmaster – given it a little bit of bling with two new models, both in stainless steel combined with either Moonshine™ or Sedna™ Gold.

The Omega Speedmaster Bi-Colour SednaTM Gold
Still in the 42mm case size with the sapphire crystal on the dial and caseback, Omega has given the watch a twist with the infusion of the yellow Moonshine™ Gold and the rose-coloured Sedna™ Gold. Both are striking and look great if I’m being honest. And rather than doing the exact same thing with both pieces, Omega has given the Moonshine™ Gold version a silver “step” dial, with the subdial registers in galvanic 18k Moonshine™ Gold. The hands and indices are also done in 18k Moonshine™ Gold to offset the silver sunray dial nicely.
On the Sedna™ Gold variant, you will find a PVD-treated 18K Sedna™ Gold “step” dial instead, which gives off a pink hue and contrasting with this, the subdials are black coated. Omega has also done the hands and indices in 18k Sedna™ Gold, which, unlike the Moonshine™ Gold version, blends a little into the dial. Thanks to the 3D step dial, the hands do stand out and aren’t lost thanks to the depth of the dial.
On each piece, Omega has kept the classic Tachymeter scale on the black ceramic bezel, including the “Dot Over 90” and both are done in their matching coloured Ceragold™ – Omega’s patented Ceramic/Gold fusion.
Flipping the watch over, you can see Omega’s Calibre 3861 manual wind chronograph movement proudly on display with a combination of brushed finished, wide Côtes de Genève of the bridges, snail brushed and pearlage on the plates underneath, plus those pops of gold on the balance and gear train.
To assist in launching the campaign for Omega, they have enlisted their newest brand ambassador, Barry Keoghan who has been a fan of Omega for a long time. He has previously been seen stepping out onto the red carpet wearing an Omega – including the Speedmaster ’57 and even a 1930s Lépine “Sideros” pocket watch – which he wore to this year’s Met Gala.
For those that aren’t aware of Barry Keoghan’s work (don’t worry, we had to look him up also), the Irish actor is best known for his roles in most recently “Saltburn” and played major roles in “The Batman“, “Dunkirk” and “The Eternals” to name a few along with winning a BAFTA and being nominated for an Academy Award and two Golden Globes. Ok, we may have to go back and watch a few of these movies again!
Initial Thoughts
As I referenced in the starting paragraph, the Speedmaster is as about as iconic as they come, and sometimes when brands start to play around with the designs and colours, it can alter the look and feel (obviously) but also take away from the DNA of the watch itself. This isn’t the case here with the new Bi-Colour Speedmasters as Omega has kept pretty true to the watch, just giving it a nice dose of gold!
If the solid gold Moonshine™ or Sedna™ Gold models that Omega has in their lineup are a little too much for you, or you like the colour but maybe don’t want the full gold weight, then these are probably a good option that straddles the full steel and full gold models. The Moonshine™ Gold is a little more subtle thanks to the silver dial and the way Omega produces their Moonshine™ Gold to have a slightly paler hue than pure yellow gold, and the Sedna™ Gold stands out more prominently for those that want a little more wrist presence. Either way, with both being priced at A$30,100, you have the option to choose.
