The latest timepiece to be unveiled by Breitling is on the back of their latest partnership with lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina. Using the brand as inspiration, the new rugged and retro look Top Time Limited Edition is designed for the man or woman that lives and craves an adventurous life.
As a part of this latest partnership, Breitling is now officially the timekeeper of the Deus Swank Rally, which is an epic motorcycle championship that celebrates vintage bikes through diverse locations around the world including Italy, France, Australia, and Bali. As Breitling CEO, Georges Kern points out, this latest timepiece isn’t just for bikers. “Bikers, boarders, surfers, digital nomads … this is a timepiece for dynamic people of action, purpose, and style. Our versatile Top Time Deus celebrates having the freedom to explore the world your way, at your pace.”
Deus Ex Machina shares this same sentiment as they say “The Deus philosophy recalls an era before the various pursuits of fun – motorcycling, surfing, skateboarding, whatever – were marketed into fundamentalist factions. All are welcomed under the Deus roof,” says founder Dare Jennings.”
The Top Time Deus Limited Edition chronograph takes inspiration and design cues from Breitling’s original 1960’s edition, while also being a true tribute to the nomad spirit. The very first Top Time released by Breitling was designed to cater to the needs of “young and active professionals”, while also releasing the watch in a range of “ultra-modern” chronographs.
Design:
This latest timepiece comes in a 41mm stainless steel case, with the bezel being integrated with the dial. The watch features a silver dial with two contrasting black counters, which are 30-minute at 3 o’clock and 60 seconds at 9 o’clock. There are numerous orange and yellow-themed details on the dial, from the hour and minute hands, chronograph hand, sub-counter hands to the tachymeter scale. The Dues logo is also shown at the 6 o’clock position. One of the key features of this piece however is the chronograph hand, designed in the shape of a lightning bolt, signifying speed.
Movement:
The engine inside the Top Time Deus Limited Edition is Breitling’s own Calibre 23 movement. The Calibre 23 is a COSC-certified self-winding mechanical movement that features unilateral with ball-bearing. It produces a frequency of 4hz (28, 800 Vph) and a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The case back of the watch is unfortunately closed, however, it features the iconic Deus artwork of a retro-looking motorcycle in full flight, which has been designed by creative director Carby Tuckwell.
Closing:
There are only 1,500 of these timepieces available. Breitling states that “In its first four weeks, the Top Time Deus will be an online exclusive before hitting Breitling’s global retail network. Customers who order the watch online at www.breitling.com will also get a stunning limited edition Deus coffee table book and unique canvas tote bag.
