Tag Heuer has partnered up with the world’s ultimate hub for personalized luxury, Bamford Watch Department, to bring us the all-new Tag Heuer Aquaracer Bamford limited edition. This is the second time that the UK personalisation brand and the Swiss watchmaker have come together to create something special. Back in 2018, the first collaboration between the two brands took place, where Tag Heuer and George Bamford came together to create a special version of the Monaco timepiece.
In a world where watches are mass-produced and personal customisation is a rarity, Bamford Watch Department was discovered from this lost art. The story goes that George Bamford was offered a Rolex Daytona for his 18th birthday, which he wore to a dinner party one night. At this party, he found that half the guests were wearing the same watch as his.
Looking to be a bit more exclusive and unique, he decided to change the steel colour on his Rolex with the help of his family business. The Rolex got a DLC coat treatment, which was unheard of in the watch industry during that time. The DLC coating turned the Rolex full black. While Geroge was traveling through France, this unique watch received a lot of attention. Once he returned to the UK, George had received almost 25 orders for custom watch modifications. This was when Bamford Watch Department was born.
This latest collaboration capitalises on Bamford Watch Departments’ talent for creating unique design codes and combines it with Tag Heuer’s bold heritage. The two ideologies behind the companies are perfectly suited to working with each other as they share similar values in design.
This special Tag Heuer Aquaracer Bamford is limited to 1,500 pieces. The timepiece comes in an ultra-robust titanium 43mm case, which is hypoallergenic and resistant to corrosion. The 60-minute scale, unidirectional rotating bezel, and three-row sandblasted bracelet are all made from this grade 2 titanium material. The use of this material throughout the watch certainly gives it a unique visual appearance compared to traditional stainless steel.
The Aquaracer Bamford limited edition is presented in a black dial with contrasting rhodium-plated applied indexes filled with white Superluminova. The black-gold-plated hands with orange lacquer have also been treated with white Superluminova, which gives excellent readability on the dial. The orange dashes that are used on the hands can also be found on the bezel and around the flange, a recognizable style of Bamford Watch Department.
The movement used inside is Tag Heuer’s automatic winding caliber 5 movement. Beating at a frequency of 28, 800 VpH (4hz), the caliber 5 movement gives out a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. Tag Heuer has also engraved the case back with “One of 1500”.
George Bamford from Bamford Watch Department summed up this latest collaboration with Tag Heuer nicely by stating that “when designing this limited-edition Aquaracer, we looked to models from TAG Heuer’s past for creative inspiration. The orange design elements and sporty bezel are reminiscent of the impactful TAG Heuer pieces that were launched between 1979 and 1994 and paved the way for the Aquaracer collection, which made its official debut in 2004,”
Tag Heuer and Bamford Watch Department have got together to once again create a statement piece that is bound to appeal to the watch aficionados.
