The epitome of sporty elegance, now fully dressed in pink gold
During the Watches & Wonders Shanghai 2020 exhibition, Vacheron Constantin released the latest addition to their Overseas collection. Following the release of the ultra-thin pink gold perpetual calendar model, this new release is the more simple three-hand self-winding version. The Overseas collection is arguably the sportiest in the Maison’s range and with that this new three-hand model is given the iconic overseas dial colour while being presented in a precious material, making it simple, yet sophisticated.
Vacheron Constantin’s Oversea’s collection was re-invented in 2016 and was designed to essentially be a daily companion, with elegance and comfortability being key factors. The collection is easily distinguishable thanks to the hexagonal bezel, which is representative of a Maltese Cross. This hexagonal bezel has been used in the new Overseas self-winding model as well.
There are two key features that stand out in this new three-hander model. The first being the gorgeous blue dial. This blue dial has been iconic to the Oversea’s collection with it being used on the likes of dual time, chronograph, perpetual calendar etc. The sunburst translucent blue lacquered dial is stunning to look at, and under different light effects, the dial becomes more vibrant. The dial also has contrasting effects between the outer flange which has a satin-finished blue and the minute track which has a blue velvet finish.
The blue dial is nicely contrasted by the sharp gold hour markers along with the minute and hour hands. The hour markers and hands have been coated in white luminescent material. The date window at 3 o’clock position has a gold encasing as well to match the hour markers nicely.
Vacheron Constantin has used a 41mm case size for this model, which even though it is a little large for a dress watch, it does showcase it’s sporty elegance. The second standout feature is, of course, the 18K 5N pink gold casing. Perfectly matching the gold of the dial, the pink gold case brings forth the level of class and aesthetic appeal that the other watches in the Overseas collection display. The case isn’t all about looks either, providing 150m (15bar) of water resistance, the case on the Overseas self-winding also features a soft iron casing ring, which ensures anti-magnetic protection.
With the option of having a pink gold bracelet with the Maltese cross inspired links, it really brings out the elegance of this watch being dressed in full 18k 5N pink gold.
The movement used in Vacheron Constantin’s Oversea’s self-winding is the brand’s in-house Manufacture 5100 calibre movement. This self-winding calibre has a frequency of 4 Hz or 28, 800 Vph. Featuring `172 components it gives out a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. This 5100 calibre movement by Vacheron Constantin is as the brand puts it, “the hallmark of Geneva certified timepiece”.
Vacheron Constantin has kept the case-back open, which showcases the beautiful work they have done on the movement. The viewer is treated to the refined decorations throughout the movement
while also being able to see the 22k gold oscillating weight in operation. Although it has been around for most of Vacheron Constantin’s models, this 22k gold oscillating weight still comes decorated with a wind-rose. Beautiful in detail, the oscillating weight is then connected to the base plate, which has Côtes de Genève motif.
Offering versatility and varying levels of comfortability, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas self-winding comes with an easy interchangeable bracelet/strap options. Catering for different lifestyles and activites, the strap can easily be swapped out from the elegant 18k 5N pink gold to the more sporty blue rubber, or the classy and comfortable blue alligator leather strap.
This quick changeability is all thanks to the Oversea’s collections signature interchangeability system. The beauty of all this is is that if you own Oversea’s pink gold chronograph or dual time model, the 18k 5N pink gold strap that comes available on the Oversea’s self-winding can be fitted to those models too.
This is the first time Vacheron Constantin has offered a full 18k 5N model from bracelet to casing, with the signature blue Oversea’s dial. With an elegant yet sporty dial, the new Vacheron Constantin Oversea’s self-winding is an excellent addition to the brands prestigious Overseas’s collection.
