In what feels like far too long ago, thanks to the current global pandemic of 2020, Panerai proclaimed 2020 to be the year of the Luminor. Focusing the entirety of their watches and wonders digital showcase release to the brands iconic form factor.
So, true to their word Panerai have continued their focus on the Luminor line, releasing the all new Luminor Blu Mare.
What we find in this release is the traditional Luminor case size of 44mm, in 316L stainless steel, the iconic safety lock crown guard, and large Arabic numerals at 12, 3 an 6 o’clock. The Luminor Blue Mare is the Firenze brand evoking its history and proudly exhibiting the character so beloved by Paneristi the world over.
The Blu Mare is the first of the collection to display the stunning blue sunburst dial; similar to that of the Luminor Due 00926 that we reviewed recently on the site.
Unlike the Due collection however, the Blu Mare features a more substantial water resistance rating of 100m, albeit with the addition of a calfskin strap which leaves this piece short of the traditional dive watch that Panerai is known for.
Inside the watch, we find the in-house calibre P.6000. The automatic movement features 110 components, 19 jewels and affords the watch with three days of power reserve.
The Panerai Luminor Blu Mare, reference PAM01085 is a reminder that the brand is skewing away from its past of over sized hardcore divers, in favour of a more contemporary, dressy direction. With the continued use of what is, one of the best sunburst blue dials in the business, as well as more manageable case sizes, Panerai are setting themselves up nicely for a resurgence into the mainstream, the likes of which they have not seen since the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
