Bvlgari unveils the boldest transformation of the Serpenti yet, fitting with the brand’s Aeterna High Jewellery. A statement of style and modernity, the new Serpenti Aeterna is a stunning reimagining of a timeless icon.

Bvlgari’s Serpenti collection is perfectly placed for transformation and new interpretations this year, especially considering that in the Chinese Zodiac, it’s the year of the Snake. The Italian watchmaker has already updated the Serpenti collection with a timepiece dedicated to the Year of the Snake, released during LVMH Watch Week in January. Bvlgari developed a new movement specifically for this new collection: the Lady Solotempo BVS100 automatic movement.

Then, early last month, Bvlgari teamed up once again with MB&F to create an otherworldly timepiece! MB&F and BVLGARI might be worlds apart, and yet, through this latest collaboration, they have given birth to a one-of-a-kind creation that challenges horological conventions! We know MB&F to create incredible haute horology timepeices that very few brands dare to, so teaming up with Bvlgari to unveil a new Serpenti had everyone talking, and the did the final product deliver! MB&F spent countless hours redesigning the case to make sure the head of the case stayed true to the design language of Bvlgari’s Serpenti collection while also imbuing the elegance and luxury that the Italian brand is known for.

Now, for Watches & Wonders 2025, Bvlgari is once again transforming the Serpenti. The brand is releasing two new timepeices of the new Serpenti Aeterna. Bvlgari states in regard to this new release, “With Aeterna, Bvlgari brings the reptile back to life in exquisite high jewellery, conducing to sublime creativity. Diamonds illuminate the gold of the precious animal, whose new skin expresses more than ever the foundations of Bvlgari”

You might be asking yourself, in the span of four months, the Serpenti collection has undergone several transformations! The answer to this would be that, since 1948, the Serpenti has continually reinvented itself, embodying the essence of perpetual rebirth! With each of the different lines in the Serpenti collection (Tubogas, Seduttori, Misteriosi, etc) embodying different design styles, the new Aetherna line was designed to push the boundaries of the Serpenti collection even further.

“I like to design in a pure, contemporary style, with few decorative elements to draw lines that speak the language of eternity. Octo Finissimo perfectly expresses this quest for the absolute throughform, which now transforms Serpenti. Only a few strokes were needed to sketch Aeterna. The Serpenti is distilled to its essence, its own dynamic, refined to its most powerful form… with visionarymodernity”.

Case Design

Bvlgari is introducing the Serpenti Aeterna in either a rose gold case that is adorned with diamonds or a second high-jewellery model that is done in full pave-set white gold. Both cases have an elegant curve that mimics the serpent’s head in a graceful manner, which then seamlessly transitions into the bracelet that wraps around the wrist, acting as the serpents body and tail.

The rose gold case comes set with round brilliant-cut diamonds, featuring a rose gold crown on the 3 o’clock position of the serpent’s head. This crown is also set with diamonds on the side and features a singular brilliant cut diamond on the top surface. The rose gold model comes in two sizes: small, which measures 145mm (reference: 104205), and large, which measures 155mm (reference 104280).

The white gold model, on the other hand, features a head and bezel set with round brilliant-cut diamonds. While the rose gold version didn’t feature diamonds on the bezel, this timepiece leans into the high jewellery of watchmaking as the whole timepiece is adorned with brilliant cut diamonds. It also differs from the rose gold model because the bracelet features larger-sized brilliant-cut diamonds. The crown is also set with brilliant-cut diamonds on the side, while the top surface features a emerald brilliant cut.

Dial Design

The dials for both models are laid out the same. The rose gold timepiece features a brilliant-cut diamonds pavé dial with rose gold-plated hands. The white gold model follows suit; however, it features green hands to match the emerald on the crown. Out of the two timepeices, this is also the model that you are able to read the time more easily in (if you are after functionality) with the green contrasting beautifully against the brilliant cut diamonds.

Bracelet Design

The Serpenti’s bracelet design is one of the timepiece’s core elements. For the Serpenti Aeterna, the bracelet has been elegantly designed to embrace the wrist like a bangle. The bracelet also tapers beautifully from head to tail; as Bvlgari states, ” It asserts its distinctive character in an elegantly refined bangle. Versatile by design, it effortlessly adapts to personal style and pairs seamlessly with other Bvlgari creations. This unprecedented design daringly wraps itself around the wrist, thanks to an ingenious clasp mechanism. A truly exceptional piece, it demanded two years of development to achieve perfect aesthetic integration and comfort.”

Initial Thoughts

The Serpenti collection has always been a canvas for Bvlgari’s creativity, constantly evolving while staying true to its iconic serpent-inspired heritage. With the introduction of the Bvlgari Aeterna, the brand has been once again able to fuse high jewellery with horology, bringing the collection to a new level of sophistication.

While we’ve had quite a few Serpenti models released this year already, and rightly so, as this is the Year of the Snake, the Serpenti Aeterna is a bold statement of luxury and craftsmanship, embracing the brand’s signature design language while pushing boundaries with intricate diamond settings and an elegantly sculpted bracelet. Bvlgari has reaffirmed with this latest interaction that their legendary serpent is not just alive but well and truly thriving, continuously reinventing itself as we have seen this year.
