Panerai reinvents its iconic Luminor Marina with bold new updates, enhanced performance, and refined wearability.
Panerai’s Luminor collection is arguably their most iconic collection to date. This simple yet bright collection gets its name from the luminous compound created by Panerai, an innovative material that shaped the creation of the first models in
the early 1960s. The purpose behind these high lume timepeices was that they were created as robust and precise instruments. to meet the demanding standards of the Italian Navy.

In 1993, Panerai introduced the Luminor Marina Militare, a timepiece specifically designed for the Navy, to the general public for the very first time. Every element of this timepiece served a purpose, balancing form and function and maximizing reliability, readability, and resilience, which would come to define Panerai’s watchmaking tenet.
Now, as part of Panerai’s Watches & Wonders 2025 releases, the brand celebrates the legacy of this iconic collection by unveiling five new Luminor Marina timepieces. The watches are presented in steel, with one model in titanium, and they carry the Luminor Marina collection’s assertive presence with their large size and bold looks.
Design:
The signature elements of the Luminor Marina remain intact for this latest series of timepeices, such as the safety lock system—a distinctive feature that defines Panerai’s visual identity—to the luminous dial with sandwich construction, offering optimal readability in all conditions.
As mentioned previously, the model comes in either a 44mm stainless steel case (crafted from Panerai’s premium AISI 316LVM – 1.4441 stainless steel) or a 44mm grade 5 titanium case model named Luminor Marina Titanio. The use of titanium on the case allows the watch to be 44% lighter (compared to its steel counterpart) and also has higher resistances to corrosion and physical “wear and tear”, which makes it an ideal choice for those who want a bit more resilience from their timepiece without sacrificing the comfort.
That’s not all that’s new for the case design, either. WIth a brand new movement sitting inside the Luminor Marina that has sleeker proportions compared to its predecessor, the case design has been modernized with a reduced thickness by 12% and a weight reduced by 15% for comfort and ergonomic wearability while maintaining its bold identity. The final touch on the case construction is that, for the first time ever, the collection features a water resistance of 500m (50 Bar).
One of the standout elements of the Luminor design is the simplistic dial. The large baton-style hour indices, mixed with the signature 6-9-12 Arabic numerals, and the sharp hands allow easy readability of the time, regardless of whether it’s day or night. There are only four other elements present on the dial: the constant seconds counter at 9 o’clock, the date window at 3 o’clock and the “LUMINOR MARINA” and “PANERAI” inscriptions at 12 and 6 o’clock, respectively. While this design is a core feature in the Luminor Marina collection, Panerai has used a new innovative lume to make it stand out that much more at night. The brand has used Super-LumiNova® X2, which provides increased brightness, ensuring the watch is easily readable even in low-light conditions, a crucial feature for military naval missions.
Alongside this subtle yet bright change, this new Luminor Marina collection offers five dial colour variations. Firstly we get the traditional matte black dial with matching black alligator strap, a blue sun-brushed dial with matching blue alligator strap, a white matte dial with black alligator strap, a light blue sun-brushed dial with a polished and brushed steel bracelet and lastly, the grade 5 titanium model with a green sun-brushed dial with grey calf strap.

This is also the first time a bracelet is offered in this collection. The Luminor Marina PAM03323 reimagines the iconic model by introducing a V-shaped bracelet design. This new Panerai metal bracelet, with its V-shape design that tapers from the case to the buckle, is stated to offer “a lighter feel for everyday wear”. The use of different finishes from brushed in the interior links to polished on the edges, allows the bracelet to play with light beautifully.
Movement:
At the heart of this latest Luminor Marina collection beats the new P.980 calibre movement. The movement features a traversing balance bridge, enhancing stability and performance accuracy. The movement features a stop-second function, allowing for precise time-setting by halting the second hand when the crown lever is pulled out. The movement has also been tested for six positions to ensure reliable chronometric performance.

The technical side of the movement is that it operates at a high frequency of 4Hz (28,800 VpH), ensuring high accuracy, and now features a 3-day (72-hour) power reserve. The movement has also been constructed so that the case back view looks aesthetic, with the stand-out feature being the skeletonised rotor with Panerai’s logo inscription.
Final Thoughts:
Panerai’s latest Luminor Marina collection showcases the brand’s enduring legacy of innovation and functionality. With a newly refined case design, presented in steel or grade 5 titanium for improved performance and comfort, it ensures that the collection stays up to date with modern watchmaking. The new high-performance movement also aids in the improved case design, while also improving functionality greatly with its high frequency and increased power reserve. Panerai has successfully modernized its most iconic timepiece, enhancing wearability without compromising the bold aesthetics that define the Luminor. The addition of a titanium variant, a first-ever bracelet option, and the upgraded Super-LumiNova® X2 further elevate the collection, ensuring it remains a compelling choice for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
