Bremont kicks off their year by launching several new Bronze editions of the Terra Nova Collection

With 2025 shaping up to be a great year for watches, British brand Bremont has started its 2025 campaign by launching several Terra Nova models in a new Bronze alloy called Cupro-Aluminium, which not only has a greater shine but is also more impervious to patina and discolouring over time.

The Terra Nova Chronograph, Terra Nova 40.5mm Turning Bezel and the Terra Nova Date have all undergone the bronze treatment, making these a departure from the 904L steel that were launched in last year. Cupro-Aluminum is a form of bronze that while looking similar to standard bronze, has a higher aluminium content as well as silicon which makes it more scratch-resistant thanks to its higher strength rating, and it also tarnishes or patinas less, and in a more even manner. The blend of metals also gives this alloy a softer, more golden tone as well, which for those who love the look of a gold watch but don’t want to spend the cash, offers a great alternative. The other benefit of Cupro-Aluminium is it has a slight weight reduction when compared to standard bronze or steel, plus it is hypoallergenic thanks to the silicon content.

Bremont has kept the size and specs of these pieces the same as those of their steel counterparts. The Terra Nova Chronograph is sized 42.5mm x 14.8mm thick & a lug-to-lug of 48.8mm, the Terra Nova Turning Bezel is 40.5mm in diameter, 11.9mm thick and a 47mm lug-to-lug while the Terra Nova Date is 40.5mm x 11.1mm thick and 47mm lug-to-lug. If you’ve tried on any of the Terra Nova collection in steel, then these will wear essentially the same, albeit a little lighter and a little more golden.

The colour styling of the new Terra Nova Bronze is pretty eye-catching if I’m honest. Seeing these last week in person, the combination of the golden bronze, the vertical gradient green dial and golden indices and hands on the Terra Nova Chronograph and Date models really creates a nice looking visual. The Chronograph and Date models come in a variety of strap and bracelet options – on the khaki green leather straps, have a more rugged look to them, which offsets the dials nicely. Not a fan? then these are on quick-change straps too, so if you want, you can opt for the Nato strap or the full bronze bracelet on these models. The Turning Bezel is currently only offered on the bronze bracelet, but given it has the same 22mm lug width, you could always swap it out for an aftermarket strap, or talk to your local Bremont Boutique or retailer about your options.

The Terra Nova turning Bezel does differ to the other two models however (aside from the bracelet), as Bremont has given it a gradient “caramel” metal coloured dial. This changes the look of the piece greatly and has a more monochromatic look to it as the dial emulates the bronze case and bracelet, as does the golden hands and hour markers on the dial. Bremont has made this piece a limited edition as well, with 100 pieces available worldwide.

Inside the watches are Bremont-modified Sellita movements. The Terra Nova Chronograph houses the BE-50AV, a modified version of the Sellita SW510BH that has a 56-hour power reserve, beating at 4Hz. The Terra Nova Date houses the Calibre BE-36AE, a modified, automatic Sellita SW200-1 with a 38 hour power reserve, running at 4Hz and the Turning Bezel has the Calibre BE-79AL, a modified automatic Sellita SW279, again with a 38-hour power reserve. The movements are not groundbreaking, nor are they in-house, but they are tried and tested workhorses of the watch world which Bremont has tweaked with the use of their Glucydur balance wheel, an Anachron balance spring and Nivaflex mainspring to make them more anti-magnetic, shock resistant, and more reliable compared to the standard Sellita base.

The new Terra Nova Bronze models have the world map motif etched into the bronze-coloured PVD steel case back, protecting the movement and your skin!

As a result of the modifications, the Terra Nova Chronograph is a certified Chronometer, rated to ISO 3159 standard, however, the Turning Bezel and Terra Nova Date are not. I for one would like to see this certification come back to all their new models, which was something Bremont did for a majority of their collections in the past. In saying this, Bremont is currently going through an evolution, and while this happens, concessions need to be made, so this is understandable.

Initial Thoughts

We here at Watch Advice have covered a fair bit from Bremont over the last few years, from spending an evening with Co-Founder, Giles English, to reviewing the Martin Baker and Supermarine collections. Last year amidst all the commentary around the new Terra Nova releases and brand direction, we tested the new pieces out ourselves to get an honest assessment of the watches and subsequently spoke to Davide Cerrato about them and the direction of Bremont under his stewardship. Change is inevitable in this industry, and if a brand wants to stay relevant, then it needs to evolve its collections to appeal to a wider audience, something that Davide impressed on us last year in our conversation, and the new Terra Nova Bronze collection is just one of those evolutions.

They may be made for adventure, but Champs dresses these up well!

These new pieces added to the Terra Nova collection are just one of the many new steps we’ll see the brand take over the next few years. Bremont is doubling down on its brand ethos of exploration and adventure, something many of us can relate to or aspire to, and what says adventure more than a bronze watch?

Bonze is a living metal (so to speak) and with this, will slowly change its look over time, adjusting to the elements with its wearer, giving it more character and soul. For those who are not this way inclined, but love the look of a gold sports watch, the Terra Nova Bronze collection in the Cupro-Aluminium will tick the boxes. They won’t age or patina as fast, and with a simple lemon juice solution, can bring these back to new when needed.
