Tiffany & Co. continues to expand its creative horizons with the Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany watch collection with this latest unveiling of two new interpretations. Jean Schlumberger is one of Tiffany & Co.’s most celebrated designers, with the brand having an array of dazzling and contemporary timepieces that remain true to his vision.
Tiffany & Co. first introduced Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany Bird of a Rock in 1965. Back then, the creations were stunning pieces of jewellery or brooches. For over half a century, the Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany Bird on a Rock brooch has epitomised joy, freedom and possibilities. Ever since these first jewellery releases, Bird on a Rock has maintained its timeless allure and evolved into a world of exceptional creations, including timepieces, all inspired by the original.
A symbol of joy and optimism, the diamond-encrusted bird now perches on the dial of the Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany Bird on a Rock watches. The two timepieces being released are the Bird of a Rock Tsavorite Watch and Bird of a Rock Full Pavé Diamond Watch. Both new timepeices feature the same design with the same signature bird being invisibly attached to the outer ring of the dial, spinning freely with every gesture of the wrist. Creating this bird is no easy task either as the process takes over 24 hours! The jeweller must first sculpt the gold form by hand, then set it with diamonds and a pink sapphire for the eye.
Bird on a Rock Full Pavé Diamond Watch
This high jewellery timepiece comes presented on a 36mm 18k white gold case, with the watch featuring a total of 1318 brilliant-cut diamonds. The case itself is set with 366 round brilliant diamonds, totalling 2.94 carats. The 18k white gold bracelet is formed from five rows of links and features 628 round brilliant diamonds of varying sizes, totalling 4.4 carats. lastly, we have the dial, in which the centre is set with 204 round brilliant diamonds (total 0.72 carats) and the signature bird itself which is set with 120 round brilliant diamonds and a round pink sapphire. The rotating outer dial ring in which the bird is set, comes with 30 baguette aquamarines, totalling over 3 carats.
Tiffany & Co. states that “engraved with a sunburst pattern that takes inspiration from the Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany &Co. Floral Arrows brooch, the case-back is highlighted by a sprinkling of diamonds. A push button is integrated into the case-back for setting the time, which is powered by a high-precision Swiss quartz movement.”
Bird on a Rock Tsavorite Watch
Tiffany & Co.’s Bird on a Rock Tsavorite Watch follows the exact same design as the Full Pavé Diamond Watch, with the main changes being green coloured baguettes in which the bird seamlessly revolves around and also that the watch is offered on a green leather strap instead of the 18k white gold bracelet set with diamonds.
The case size of the Bird on a Rock Tsavorirte measures at 39mm, which is 3mm larger than it’s counterpart. For this timepiece, the jewellers have used a snow-setting technique to fix the diamonds onto the watch. “Snow-setting is a technique in which round brilliant diamonds of different sizes are meticulously arranged to create a glittering expanse of light and reflection with minimal visible metal.” This technique requires great level of skill, with the case being snow-set with 413 round brilliant taking almost 55 hours to complete.
The dial is also snow-set with 166 round full-cut diamonds totalling 1.1 carats, with the signature bird that perches on the tsavorite ring set with 99 round full-cut diamonds and a pink sapphire eye. Like the Bird on a Rock Full Pavé Diamond Watch, this Tsavorite Watch creates a beautiful contrast with the diamond set dial by incorporating 36 baguette Tsavorites, which total 5.4 carats. The brand states that this gemstone is a “Tiffany & Co. legacy gemstone that the House introduced to the world in 1974. The artisans applied the invisible-setting technique to the beauty and intensity of the gemstone’s verdant green hue.”
While the Bird on a Rock Full Pavé Diamond Watch featured a Swiss quartz movement, Tiffany & Co. have given the Bird on a Rock Tsavorite Watch the LTM 2100 Swiss-manufactured automatic movement. This movement comes with a power reserve of 38 hours.
