As you may have seen through the many different Snake Week watch releases, 2025 is the Chinese Year of the Snake. During LVMH Watch this year, Bvlgari released new timepieces for one of the most iconic ladies collections: the Serpenti. It seems like updating this collection, especially this year with all the Year of the Snake celebrations, seems like a no-brainer! Bvlagari has done just that, but also gone a step further by doing away with a quartz movement and equipping this new collection with a brand new automatic movement.
Revered since ancient times, the serpent has symbolized the universe’s cyclical rhythm and perpetual renewal. Equipping Serpenti with an in-house self-winding movement was a natural evolution for Bvlgari. Bvalgari’s Executive Director of Watch Design, Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, says, “Serpenti is more than an icon; it’s a signature. With its mythical allure, the snake has long fascinated the Maison, whose origins are steeped in Greco-Roman art and culture. This deep connection has unlocked an infinite realm of creativity. Inspired initially by the splendour of Roman jewellery worn by Cleopatra, Serpenti continually reinvents itself, mirroring the transformative essence of femininity.”
While the designs of this iconic timepiece remain somewhat similar to its predecessors, the big point of difference, as mentioned before, is the automatic movement. Bvlgari has developed a new movement specifically for this new collection: the Lady Solotempo BVS100 automatic movement. This movement is a major milestone for this collection; it is the end product of many years of planning, development and execution. The brand had to design this in-house because sourcing an automatic movement from other sources proved to be very difficult. “This exceptional calibre has been developed, designed, and produced because no other on the market meets the size and volume criteria required to fit perfectly within the iconic shape of the Serpenti head. This exemplifies Bvlgari’s watchmaking expertise, which naturally extends to its jewellery creations, including Serpenti.”
Each of the nine releases below features the Lady Solotempo BSV100 Automatic movement. The watches come with an open case back, which means that we are able to see the beautifully finished calibre, which in this case has an oscillating mass decorated with the Bvlgari logo and snake-scale patterns. The movement is also able to power the watch to 50 hours of autonomy. The movement measures 19mm in diameter and just 3.90mm in thickness and seamlessly fits into the head of the Serpenti! This movement will be used in other Bvlgari ladies timepieces going into the future.
The new Serpenti collection consists of seven Serpenti Seduttori Automatic timepieces, which is the brand’s single bracelet watch with the signature Serpent-head dial. The other two models in the collection are the iconic Serpenti Tubogas Automatic, which is the timepiece that wraps around this wrist. The Tubogas is offered in both a single-wrap bracelet and a double-wrap bracelet, adding an extra touch of elegance and evoking the majestic allure of a queen of the desert.
