No other watch brand in the world has a more impressive rich history and ties to aviation than Breitling. The brand has just released the new Avenger Collection, which joins the brands two other new pilot watch collections; the Aviator 8 and Navitimer range. With the release of the Avenger collection however, marks the brand’s evolution in their pilot watch range, making them once again the leading manufacture of aviation-related timepieces. The Avenger collection which debuted originally in 2001, has a very robust and bold personality. With a total of 11 new models released in the latest Avenger collection, Breitling has shown the transition of one of their most daring collections to date into the modern era of aviation.
The watches in the Avenger collection come with several impressive variations to suit any aviation watch fan. With case sizes ranging from 43mm to 48, variety of dial colour variations, different strap selections, to the watches being available in chronograph, three-hand “time only” watches or the added 24-hour GMT hand models.
Breitling Super Avenger Chronograph 48 and Chronograph 48 Night Mission
The Super Avenger Chronograph 48 certainly makes a big, bold statement with its 48mm stainless steel casing size. The Super Avenger Chronograph 48 comes with a unidirectional ratcheted bezel, black dial with three sub-dial layouts on the 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions and a self-winding Breitling Calibre 13 movement. The hour and minute hands along with the hour indexes have been coated with Super-LumniNova material to make the dial easily legible in all lighting conditions. A hint of colour is added to the black dial with the 12 o’clock sub-dial getting the “second-track” done partially in red. This makes the watch lively in what is otherwise a black and white contrasting timepiece. This model comes with either an anthracite leather military strap or a stainless steel bracelet.
The Night mission variation of the Super Avenger Chronograph 48 comes with a durable yet lightweight casing, made from DLC-coated titanium. The dial colour has been changed from black to blue to give that “night vision” appeal, which certainly looks gorgeous when combined with the white Arabic numerals for the hour markers. The Super Avenger Chronograph 48 Night mission comes with a blue leather military strap with white stitching to match the blue and white theme of the dial.
Both the Super Avenger Chronograph 48 and the Chronograph 48 night mission come equipped with the Calibre 13 movement by Breitling. The Calibre 13 movement comes with a power reserve of up to 48 hours, 30 bar (300 metres) water resistance and COSC certification.
Breitling Avenger Chronograph 45 and Chronograph 45 Night Mission
The classic pilots watch in the Avenger range is back with two variations: the Avenger Chronograph 45 and the Chronograph 45 Night mission. The Avenger Chronograph has a 45mm stainless steel casing and a unidirectional ratcheted bezel with black or blue dial variations. All variants of the Avenger Chronograph 45 comes with a three sub-dial layout.
Like the Super Avenger Chronograph 48 models, a hint of colour is added to the dial with the use of yellow on the 12 o’clock sub-dial. The black dial variant of the Avenger Chronograph 45 comes with either a stainless steel bracelet or black anthracite leather military strap to match the dial. The blue dial comes with the same choices with the only variation being a blue anthracite leather military strap.
The Breitling Avenger Chronograph 45 Night mission variant comes with a rugged but lightweight 45 mm case made from DLC-coated titanium. The ratcheted bezel and the case back are also made from the same DLC material. The black dial version with white “stenciled” Arabic numerals for hour markers along with the touch of gold colour throughout the dial certainly delivers a bold look for the Avenger Chronograph 45 Night mission model. The second variant of the Night mission for the Avenger Chronograph 45 comes with a green dial with a matching khaki-green leather military strap.
As per the Super Avenger Chronograph 48 model, both the Avenger Chronograph 45 and Chronograph 45 Night Mission come with the Breitling Calibre 13 movement.
Breitling Avenger Swiss Air Force Team Limited Edition
This model in the new Breitling Avenger collection is dedicated to the Swiss Air Force in commemoration of their 55th anniversary. The Breitling Avenger Chronograph 45 Swiss Air Force Team Limited Edition comes with a 45mm stainless steel case. The ratcheted unidirectional bezel that is iconic throughout the Avenger models is also included.
The 9’oclock sub-dial features the logo of the Swiss Air Force team, which against the black dial stands out. The logo’s colors are present throughout the dial, with yellow being used on the 12 o’clock sub-dial and the minute track done in red accent. Super-LumiNova has been used for the hands as well as the hour indexes, to make night time readability easier.
Breitling has engraved the back casing of the Avenger Swiss Air Force Team Limited Edition with the Swiss Air Force Team’s 55th-anniversary logo. The logo includes a stylized 55 and six supersonic jets in flight followed by the words “One of 550”. As the engravement suggests, the Breitling Avenger Chronograph 45 Swiss Air Force is limited to run of 550 models only.
As with the other models in the new Breitling Avenger collection, this model is also powered by Breitlings Calibre 13 movement, which produced a power reserve of up to 48 hours. The Breitling Avenger Swiss Air Force Team Limited Edition model comes standard with a black anthracite leather military strap.
The Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf and 45 Seawolf Night Mission
The Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf may be part of the brand’s aviation collection, but this model is just as well suited to underwater exploration. Coming in two variants, the Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf has a distinctive yellow dial which makes legibility easy no matter the circumstances.
The Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf has a 45 stainless steel case with a screwed titanium case back, and as per the other Avenger models, a ratcheted unidirectional bezel. This particular model comes with either an anthracite leather military strap or stainless steel bracelet option.
Breitling’s second edition of the Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf is the Night Mission variant, which comes with 45mm case made from DLC-coated titanium. The model’s unidirectional ratcheted bezel along with the case back, have also been made from titanium. The dial of the Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf Night Mission has been reverted to black to match the casing. The hour indexes have now been changed to Arabic numerals. The indexes have been given a beige-coloured finish which offers more of a stealth feel compared to the standard 45 Seawolf edition. The Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf comes standard with a black anthracite leather military strap.
The movement powering the Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf and 45 Seawolf Night Mission is Breitling’s Calibre 17. The Calibre 17 movement gives out a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. The water resistance feature is what sets the Seawolf models apart from the rest of the Avenger line-up, with a resistance of 300 bar (3000 meters), making it ideally suited for underwater exploration! As per all of Breitlings movements in the Avenger collection, the Calibre 17 has been COSC certified.
Breitling Avenger Automatic GMT 45 and GMT 45 Night Mission
The Breitling Avenger Automatic GMT 45 models are ideal candidates for those that are frequent flyers. In addition to showing the local time, a second timezone can be read by using the GMT hand on the dial. As per all models in the Avenger collection, the hands and hour indexes have been coated in Super-LumiNova to be easily legible in all lighting conditions.
The Breitling Avenger Automatic GMT 45 comes with a blue dial and a 45mm stainless steel case.
The straps that the Breitling Avenger Automatic GMT 45 comes with is either a stainless steel bracelet or a blue leather military strap to match the dial. The Breitling Avenger Automatic GMT 45 Night Mission comes with a DLC coated titanium case along with the ratcheted bezel being done in the same material as well.
Inspired by the numbers stencilled on the decks of aircraft carriers, gold Arabic numerals have been used for the hour indexes. Against the black dial of the Breitling Avenger Automatic GMT 45 Night Mission, these hour indexes stand out nicely. The Breitling Avenger Automatic GMT 45 Night Mission comes with a sand-coloured leather military strap, which matches the colours of the dial.
Both variants of the Breitling Avenger Automatic GMT 45 come with the Calibre 32 self-winding automatic movement. The Calibre 32 movement can give out a power reserve of approximately 42 hours and comes with a water resistance of 30 bar (300 meters). Calibre 32 has been COSC certified as well.
Breitling Avenger Chronograph 43
The Breitling Avenger Chronograph 43 has always been thought of as the classic pilots watch. With a 43mm stainless steel case and unidirectional bezel, the Breitling Avenger Chronograph 43 also comes in two dial colour variants: blue and black. The black dial comes with a stainless steel bracelet and a matching anthracite leather military strap. The blue dial also comes with the same strap options with the leather strap coloured blue to match the dial. Both dial variants come with the same three sub-dial layouts with the inclusion of a date window at the 3’oclock position.
Powering the Breitling Avenger Chronograph 43 is the self-winding Breitling Calibre 17 automatic movement. The movement can push out a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. The Breitling Avenger Chronograph 43 has been rated to 30bar (300 meters) water resistance, with the Calibre 17 movement also coming with COSC certification.
Breitling Avenger Automatic 43
One of the more simpler watches in the new Avenger collection, the Breitling Avenger Automatic 43 has a clean dial which comes in black or blue colour. The Breitling Avenger Automatic 43 comes in a stainless steel 43mm case with a unidirectional ratcheted bezel. The hands and hour indexes as per the rest of the Avenger collection have been coated with Super-LumiNova.
Breitling has given the Avenger Automatic 43 a stainless steel bracelet, with the black dial getting a black anthracite leather military strap. The blue dial variant gets a matching blue leather strap.
The movement inside the Breitling Avenger Automatic 43 is Breitlings Calibre 17 movement, which is the same as the ones used in the Breitling Avenger Chronograph 43 and Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf editions.
