Mauron Musy MU03-401 Aged Hard Bronze

by Sameera Gamage

The independant luxury watchmaker MU03’s line offers outstanding style, with the aged hard bronze timepiece being one of the more characteristic pieces in the collection.

Mauron Musy, founded in 2013, was born from the passion of two men: Eric Mauron and Christophe Musy. The two were driven by the same passion and determination and were the first to develop the breakthrough innovation technology with the patented nO-Ring® technology. This technology allows for a perfect gasket-free seal.

Both Eric Mauron and Christophe Musy have values of never compromising on quality and always prefer local production to keep the watches 100% Swiss-crafted, certifying that the watch has been entirely developed, manufactured and crafted in Switzerland.

The Mauron Musy MU03-401 combines the bronze of the case and its surrounding green elements to produce a bold colour combination.

The collections that are created by Mauron Musy are certainly unique timepieces, featuring intricate aesthetic designs while backing that with the watch’s mechanical prowess. The brand’s MU03 collection is no different, with the unique case construction complementing the different finishing techniques of the dial to make it stand out proudly from other date and time watches.

The MU03-401 Aged Hard Bronze takes the concept design of this collection and gives it an age-old metal treatment. Using the state-of-the-art technology available to the brand, they have created a “breakthrough” timepiece in which they offer an ultra-tough industrial bronze watch that has a patina designed to last forever.

The bevelled edges of the case shows it’s bronze patina.

The brand’s philosophy is about creating high-quality watches that offer durability and toughness, which was certainly the case when creating the MU03-401 timepiece. For Mauron Musy, this 88-piece limited edition timepiece was driven by the brand’s insatiable quest for innovation. The brand states that “Meeting the technical constraints of the brand’s patented gasket-free, direct mechanical nO-Ring® sealing technology, as well as embodying a natural 1000-hour ageing process enabling this 21st century remake of an age-old metal: the AGED HARD BRONZE ARMURE boasts a uniform patina while remaining stable over the long term.”

The contrasting finishes on the dial give it a distinctive look.

The 44mm hardened bronze case with its patina that won’t change as the watch ages, is nicely complemented by the green khaki dial. The dial on the MU03 collection as mentioned previously features different finishing techniques, which are displayed on this timepiece as well.

Firstly, we get the outer part of the dial which has a matt opaline finish, which is then directly contrasted with the circular chemical etching finish for both the constant seconds counter at 9 o’clock and the centre of the main dial. The polished finish of the Champlevé hour markers along with the diamond-polished hands contrasts nicely against the green dial, with these elements shining against the matt background.

Calibre MM01 movement created in partnership with Manufacture La Joux-Perret.

The calibre-MM01 movement has been developed alongside Manufacture La Joux-Perret. Formerly known as Jaquet-Baume, La Joux-Perret has supplied high-end timepiece movements to Armin Strom, Romain Jerome and the LVMH group. The movement created for Mauron Musy MU03 drives the hours, minutes, date function and the small seconds at 9 o’clock, while operating at a frequency of 28,800 VpH (4hz) and giving a power reserve of 55 hours.

A view into the movement through the timepiece’s case back, showing various finishing techniques such as microblasting, satin-brush and polished finishes.

The open case back of the watch showcases the brand’s commitment to producing exemplary finishing on their movements, which in this case features micro-blasted skeletonised winding rotor, bridges hollowed and micro-blasted in the centre, satin-brushed on the periphery and polished on the chamfers so as to reveal the various inscriptions in relief.

Final Thoughts

Mauron Musy commitment to creating high-quality 100% Swiss-crafted watches is shown through their yearly production, which is limited to 600 timepieces. Rather than outsourcing, the two founders have equipped the Manufacture with all the equipment required for in-house production, which in this way gives them total control over the quality of the components and movements produced.

Released in 2023, the Mauron Musy MU03-401 Aged Hard Bronze is a testament to the brand’s commitment to innovation, with a natural 1000-hour ageing process that allows the patina of the watch to never change as the watch ages. The aesthetics of the watch are enhanced further, as the bronze case is combined nicely with a green khaki dial, with matching green rubber strap. A timepiece that is forward-thinking, it will certainly be interesting to see what Mauron Musy can further adopt into this timepiece.
