This week, Breitling and Hardy Brothers teamed up to showcase the new SuperOcean Rainbow and Endurance Pro collections to Brisbane collectors.
You have to love a midweek watch event. It breaks up the monotony of the workweek and you have something to look forward to after work (should you work a 9-5 job that is) at a time when you’d just normally be going about your weekly routine. And this week, Breitling Australia along with retail partner, Hardy Brothers showcased the new SuperOcean Rainbow editions along with the new Endurance Pro collection now featuring new colours and a smaller 38mm size, something many endurance athletes have been wanting.
The event, held at Hardy Brothers Brisbane Boutique was hosted by Michelle Zaloudek, Breitling Oceania Sales Director, Stephanie Dobos, Marketing Director for Brietling Oceania and Alexander Bishop, Operations Manager for Wallace Bishop Jewellers (Parent company to Hardy Brothers), who mingled with guests and spoke about the new collections.
Speaking to a few of the crowd, it seems that the models were very well received and a few expressed interest in the SuperOcean Rainbows. Seeing these first hand, they are a great Summer watch, and even though we’re in Winter now, Summer will be upon us quickly, and up in Queensland, well it’s not really much of a Winter anyway, so it is a good a place as any to launch the new models.
The colours on the indices and hands are almost luminous, which under a light, or in the sun are pure joy, and with the rubber strap combinations, you can be sure you won’t get bored of them! Added to the standard 42mm collection is the new 36mm white variant with a two-tone 18k rose gold case, which looks both sophisticated and sporty.
As part of this collection, the new Breitling SuperOcean Automatic 46 Super Diver was on display. Not for the smaller wrist, this is a hardcore divers piece, complete with a soft-iron inner case specially designed to shield the watch from magnetic interference. On the wrist, it’s big, but not cumbersome due to the titanium construction and I would suggest that those with wrists about my size (17.5cm) or larger can easily pull it off, along with those that want a no-fuss dive watch to put over a wetsuit of course!
In addition to the new SuperOcean collection, the Breitling Endurance Pro was on display. Breitling has updated colours in the 44mm range, and alongside this, introduced a smaller, slimmer 38mm version – one piece of feedback that athletes have given to the brand. Ask and you shall receive as the saying goes!
Both sizes are powered by a Thermocompensated SuperQuartz™ movement, 10 times more accurate than standard quartz watches and all COSC certified, as are all Breitling watches.
All the guests were treated to a range of drinks, including one of my favourites, the Negroni, and there were plenty of Canapés on standby for those who were feeling peckish. One gripe I have is with evening functions at dinner time and not having enough food. In this instance, I’m happy to say that there was plenty of food, to the point where people had to say no to the waitstaff due to being full! I didn’t need dinner when I got home, let’s say that.
We also had a chance to check out the latest Chronomat, done in collaboration with NBA player, Giannis Antetokounmpo with stunning green dial. The press pics don’t really ever do justice to sunray dials in certain colourways, and being able to inspect this piece up close, even under boutique lights, you can see its appeal.
Overall it was a great evening, with old and new friends in the watch world. In Brisbane, there is both a well-established watch crowd, but also a lot of new people coming into the scene, discovering, or rediscovering their love for watches, and as both a collector and being part of the industry, it’s great to see this happening in my home city!
