H. Moser & Cie Brings Back The Green Dragon!

by Sameera Gamage

H.Moser & Cie have re-introduced the Streamliner Centre Seconds, also known as the “Green Dragon”, alongside a second variant with a stunning “Purple Haze” coloured dial.

The Streamliner Centre Seconds, or “Green Dragon,” was first introduced in 2020. It quickly became an iconic piece, winning plaudits worldwide. While the model generated considerable interest, H. Moser & Cie decided to stop production for the time being so that the brand could go back to the drawing board to further develop its aesthetic and technical features.

H.Moser & Cie – New Streamliner Centre Seconds – Matrix Green and Purple Haze fume dials

The “Green Dragon” is a take on a classic three-hand timepiece, showing just the hours, minutes, and seconds. Unlike many other models of H.Moser & Cie, however, the Green Dragon doesn’t take the minimalistic approach. We are used to seeing dials with as few elements shown as possible, with the main focus being the fumé dial. The Green Dragon still includes the fumé dial, but this time, it shows hour indices along with a minute track.

Balanced, precise proportions are the key to harmony, and the Streamliner Centre Seconds perfectly illustrates this philosophy.

Both variants of this new Streamliner Centre Seconds have a cushion-shaped steel case with a diameter of 40.0mm. Thanks to this cushion case and the integrated bracelet, which means no lugs, the timepiece looks well-balanced overall. The watch also has varied levels of finishing, from satin-finished forms on the sides to alternating brushed and polished surfaces. To match the ergonomic design of the case and bracelet, H. Moser & Cie have used a subtly domed sapphire crystal, which has been mirrored on the see-through case back as well.

Complementing the perfectly balanced case design are two colours that stand out beautifully. The Streamliner Centre Seconds gets a new Matrix Green fumé dial (Green Dragon) and a Purple Haze fumé dial, both with sunburst patterns. Both colours are stunning in their own right. However, the purple haze’s sunburst effect seems to be more visible to the eye and, hence, more aesthetically pleasing. Whether green or purple, the dial comes with the brand’s logo in transparent lacquer, like a hidden signature. Displaying the hours and minutes, the 3D hands are formed of two sections and feature inserts made from Globolight®, an innovative ceramic-based material that contains Super-LumiNova®.

As mentioned earlier, the integrated steel bracelet complements the cushion-shaped case with its elegant arch that fits the wrist’s contours. All the links are articulated and feature a gentle wave. The vertical brushed finish of the cushion case seamlessly transitions to the integrated bracelet. The bracelet also matches the polished finish on the case sides, completing a harmonious look throughout the whole timepiece.

H.Moser & Cie – Streamliner Centre Seconds – Open case back showing HMC201 automatic calibre movement and stunning finishing!

The movement used for these new Streamliner Centre Seconds models is the brand’s in-house HMC 201 automatic calibre. This 100% Swiss mechanical Manufacture movement replaces the previous HMC 200 movement used for this collection and updates the movement with features such as a wider opening onto the mechanism through partially skeletonised bridges, combined with a highly contemporary anthracite grey finish. This wider opening allows the gear train, central seconds and bi-directional automatic winding system wheels to be viewed through the open sapphire case back. The solid 18-carat gold oscillating weight has also been bevelled so that more of the movement can be seen. Operating at a frequency of 3Hz (21,600 VpH), the new HMC 201 calibre gives out a 3-day power reserve (72 hours).

Final Thoughts

The latest Streamliner Centre Seconds duo are bound to be a hit, just as the release of the “Green Dragon” was the first time. A simple three-hander timepiece where all the complexities lie in the finer details of the timepiece. The stunning Matrix green and Purple Haze fumé dials are certainly the centre of attention, but when you look deeper into the timepiece, what you get is a high level of finishing featuring polished and brushed surfaces on both the cushion-shaped case and the integrated bracelet. Many collectors would have been awaiting the return of the “Green Dragon”, and now it’s back with H. Moser & Cie.’s own unique take on Haute Horlogerie.
