Combining pure lines and plays of light, the all-new Pierre Arpels watch is distinguished by its beautiful aesthetic design!
When you first see the Pierre Arpels watch, it brings to mind what an elegant dress watch is. Simplistic in its design, refined details and a precious metal case, the Van Cleef & Arpels Pierre Arpels watch ticks all the right boxes to make it a great dress watch.
Van Cleef & Arpels first introduced the Pierre Arpels watch back in 1949. The aesthetically refined case had two central attachments to which the straps would be fixed, which incidentally became a signature design of Van Cleef & Arpels timepieces. Thanks to a “three-link” roller attachment design, the straps would be held in place.
This latest version of the 42mm Pierre Arpels is presented in an 18k rose gold case, which, when combined with the shiny dark brown alligator leather strap, gives a real visual sense of “refined elegance”. The 18k rose gold’s mirror polished finish plays with light beautifully as it runs along the bezel. The crown comes affixed with a 1-stone (0.04) carat diamond, subtly enhancing the watch’s luxury appearance. The 42mm case also has a thin profile (just 5.6mm!) thanks to the slim movement, which provides a comfortable fit on the wrist, further aiding it in becoming an ideal dress watch.
The dial details are also subtle, but upon closer inspection, show Van Cleef & Arpel’s attention to detail. We first get the hour indices, which are a mixture of slim baton-style design and Roman numerals (3-6-9-12 layout). The Roman numerals carry the same 18k rose gold finish as the case, which gives the dial a balanced look. While it’s a signature design of the Pierre Arpels collection, I do like the sharp, thin hour and minute hands. It matches nicely with the hour indices design and completes the refined elegance look of the timepiece.
The subtle design on the white lacquered dial is the piqué motif, which is shown as almost like a honeycomb structure. This piqué motif has been inspired by the Maison’s hallmark, which is also shown on the leather strap buckle. This added detail transforms the watch from a simple white lacquered dial with rose gold details into a more sophisticated piece with a central artistic feature.
Powering this latest Pierre Arpels timepiece is the manual-winding mechanical movement, 830P. Van Cleef & Arpels have sourced this movement from Piaget, which is a fine hand-wound calibre that provides an impressive 60 hours of power reserve while operating at a frequency of 21,600 VpH (3Hz). What’s most impressive about this movement is its 2.5mm thickness, which is what allows the Pierre Arpels watch to be so thin in design.
This latest edition of the Pierre Arpels continues the timeless design that first originated in 1949. The use of precious metals and diamonds adds the element of luxury and elegance to a simplistic aesthetic dress watch. Then, the added factor of Piaget’s impressive hand-wound movement gives the watch its sophistication. All these details ultimately combine to give this latest Pierre Arpels watch its timeless harmony.
