Audemars Piguet has unveiled a first-off for the brand with the release of a new Royal Oak Selfwinding yellow gold with a stunning natural turquoise dial. This combination of precious metal and stones gives this timepiece a radiant aesthetic look. Helped further by Audemars Piguet’s fine craftsmanship and finishing. Turquoise has been used in jewellery for the past 3000 years, and while being a rare stone, it also represents a wealth of positive attributes, making it a perfect fit for the Royal Oak collection.
This new Royal Oak Selfwinding is presented in a 37mm yellow gold case. This is the first time a Royal Oak variation has been offered in yellow gold since 2018. The case, bezel, and integrated bracelet all feature Audemars Piguet’s trademark finishing techniques, such as hand-finishing and alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces.
The yellow gold case encapsulates the stunning natural turquoise dial. The turquoise was cut to form a slender disc, has been grounded, and then sandblasted and polished before being integrated into a gilded brass outer casing. The thickness of the dial disc is just 0.75mm. Each watch will have its unique dial appearance, as every turquoise stone has its natural composition, texture, and colour.
Audemars Piguet has completed the look of this stunning dial by using yellow gold hands and hour markers along with the yellow gold applique bearing the “Audemars Piguet” signature. This signature has been fixed onto the turquoise dial using tiny feet specially designed to fit the thickness of the stone.
This new model also combines all the new design features of the Royal Oak 50th anniversary timepieces, such as having larger chamfers, trapeze-shaped first links on the tapering bracelet, and a sapphire caseback which is more integrated into the case.
This new Royal Oak Selfwinding yellow gold turquoise comes with the brand’s latest in-house movement, the Calibre 5900. This movement was first released in 2022 on a handful of 37mm Audemars Piguet models. The movement stands at an impressive 4mm thick and operates at a frequency of 4hz (28,800 VpH) while giving out a decent power reserve of 60 hours. The open caseback of the watch reveals the movement and its refined decorations alongside the 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight.
Although stone dials are not new to Audemars Piguet, as they were used during the 1960s and 1990s, this is the first time the Royal Oak has been treated to the brilliance of a turquoise dial with a case that’s made entirely from yellow gold. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding yellow gold turquoise gives a bright and sunny appearance with a healthy dose of positive vibes.
