H.Moser & Cie Streamliner Tourbillon Vantablack Revealed

by Chamath Gamage

Very rare and very black

Ahead of the 2022 Geneva Watch Days, H.Moser and Cie released their latest Streamliner in gold and Black. A hugely popular steel streamliner now offered in 5N red gold and a dial that needs to be seen to appreciate, Vantablack®, the blackest of the black dials. Oozing with classiness, the streamliner is equipped with the brand’s one-minute flying tourbillon. Unlike the previous streamliner versions, this red gold version is kept as minimal as possible, with the use of Vantablack® on the dial, the eyes are instantly drawn to the beautifully crafted flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock.

Vantablck® is the darkest substance known to humans as it absorbs 99.965% of the light directed, meaning there will be no reflections emitting from the material. As our eyes need reflected light to perceive what we are looking at, Vantablack® is perceived as the absence of matter. H. Moser & Cie. had to put a structure in place and develop special processes to successfully work with this material and have been doing this since 2012! The results are showcased in the latest Streamliner. The hour and minute hands with Globolight® inserts float on the dial while red gold hour indices are secured from the back of the dial using a plate, and at certain viewing angles, these indices appear or disappear against the Vantablack dial.

The latest Streamliner is powered by the in-house HMC 804 calibre that showcases time in hours and minutes coupled with a one-minute flying tourbillon. HMC 804 calibre consists of an Automatic bi-directional pawl winding system, a double hairspring and a frequency of 21,600 vibrations/hour, which produces a minimum power reserve of over 72 hours. Topped up with the Oscillating weight in 18-carat red gold with engraved H. Moser & Cie. logo can be seen from the exhibition caseback.

The 40mm cushion-shaped case in 5N red gold seamlessly blends with the brand’s first-ever integrated bracelet with articulating links in 5N red gold. With a thickness of just 12.1mm (including the domed sapphire crystal). The cushion case is constructed with meticulous polishing and satin-finishing work on adjacent surfaces. This is required to obtain the high-end finishes for which the Streamliner collection has become renowned.

H.Moser & Cie Streamliner is produced in 5N red gold with the Vantablack dial is a first for the brand. This combination of materials used is a first in the industry too, and this set-up is perfect for the brand to showcase its one-minute flying tourbillon. Produced in limited quantities, available now for CHF 109,000.
