TAG Heuer Carrera Red Dial Limited Edition

by Chamath Gamage

TAG Heuer is breathing new life into one of their most elegant chronographs and heritage-inspired line, the TAG Heuer Carrera. This latest unveiling, released today, is a special edition model that is stunning as it is refreshing, with the timeless yet elegant design that makes the Carrera so special kept intact. The TAG Heuer Carrera Red Dial Limited Edition pays homage to Jack Heuer’s visionary timepiece with a strong and unexpected rendition.

A favourite among racing pilots on and off the track, the original Heuer Carrera timepiece was released in 1963. This also marks the starting point for the timeless signature design seen by the Carrera collection still to this date. The TAG Heuer Carrera Red Dial Limited Edition draws inspiration from the understated, elegant, and legible aesthetic of the first Heuer Carrera, an ever-popular watch.

Although the modern version is now scaled up (39mm) compared to the original Heuer Carrera reference 2447, the signature lugs and pushers are still retained.

The standout feature of this timepiece is the beautiful red dial. Although many may not be aware, the use of the colour red on the dial is not something that TAG Heuer shies away from. It’s a TAG Heuer signature design that has been used many times throughout the decades. From the sports link model, Heuer Silverstone of 1974, and Formula one models to the latest Monaco timepieces, the red dial is usually synonymous with special editions.

TAG Heuer has used their Calibre Heuer 02 movement for this limited edition model. While having an outstanding power reserve of 80 hours, it is also personalised to this timepiece with the colour red on the column wheel and oscillating mass engravings on the case back.

WatchAdvice’s Thoughts:

The TAG Heuer Carrera Red Dial Limited Edition marks the entrance of a stunning new Carrera model. What makes the TAG Heuer Carrera a great timepiece is its wrist presence. The watch combines elegant yet sharp and refined design with easy legibility of the dial.

Encompassed in a glass box, the dial with its iconic tri-counter layout and sharp hour indices and hands is made more stunning with the addition of the red-sunray brushed dial as its background. The white Carrera and Tag Heuer logo, along with the rhodium-plated applied indexes and hands, are in perfect contrast to the sun-ray red background.

The timepiece is given a black alligator leather strap as standard, which compliments the dial nicely and lets the red dial be the standout feature aesthetically. TAG Heuer will only produce 600 models of this latest Carrera Red Dial Limited Edition. Honestly, with how beautiful it looks, we can’t imagine it staying on the market for long.
