Zenith’s second unveiling for Watches & Wonders 2022 is the expansion of the award-winning Chornomaster Sport line. Zenith first released the Chronomaster Sport in 2021 with the brand once again setting a high standard for sport chronograph models. A modern watch icon in the making, the Chornomaster Sport was crowned with the prestigious award of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève 2021 “Chronograph” prize.
For Watches & Wonders 2022, Zenith is updating the Chronomaster Sport line with four new models. The aesthetics have been changed, with precious metals now being used, however, the high-performance El Primero is being retained from the previous models.
Design:
The first model is the steel Chronomaster Sport, which is exclusively available at physical and online boutiques around the world. The steel Chronomaster Sport comes with an engraved bezel that has three separate coloured ceramic components. The colour palette goes from grey, blue to anthracite in a clockwise fashion. The colours of the bezel are then extended into the tri-counter layout. The 60-second counter at 3 o’clock is done in blue, the 60-minute counter at 6 o’clock is done in anthracite and lastly, the constant seconds counter t 9 o’clock is done in grey. This is the same colour palette used for the tri-counter layout on all four of the new releases. The main dial colour is a silver sunray pattern which matches the stainless steel case quite nicely.
Zenith has also given the Zenith Chronomaster Sport the full rose gold treatment. The models are available in a white dial or black dial variant. The case, bracelet, and engraved bezel with 1/10th of the second scale have all been made from 18-carat Rose gold. The black lacquered dial does give it a deep contrast, especially against the gold-plated hour indices and hands. The white dial version on the other hand lets the blue, anthracite, and grey tri-counters stand out.
The fourth and last model in this latest Chornomaster Sports reveal is the “two-tone” aesthetic timepiece. This model combines stainless steel with rose gold, bringing together durability and beauty. The 41mm case is made from stainless steel along with the side links of the bracelet. The rose gold parts are chronograph pushers, crown, bezel, and middle links of the bracelet. The two-tone model retains the same coloured tri-counter layout and silver sunray-finish as the stainless steel edition.
Movement:
All four of the timepieces come with the iconic El Primero movement, which has now been perfected to the latest edition, the El Primero 3600. This movement operates at an extremely high frequency of 5hz (36, 6000 VpH) and is also able to offer the 1/10th of a second function. Zenith has also made the power reserve more efficient, as it can now produce approximately 60 hours of power reserve. All four models come with an open case-back, which reveals the inner beauty of the El Primero 3600. From the case back the new architecture of the movement can be somewhat seen, as the watch reveals the blue column-wheel along with the open rotor marked with Zenith’s logo, the five-pointed star.
This latest reveal for Watches & Wonders 2022 by Zenith is bringing a fresh update to a much wanted and anticipated collection released last year. The same impressive performance and design are now being released with new materials and aesthetic look.
Zenith CEO, Julien Tornare sums up this collection nicely by stating “In just one year, the Chronomaster Sport has catapulted into becoming one of the most sought-after modern chronograph watches, as well as a significant pillar for Zenith that brings together our unique know-how in high-frequency chronographs with a distinctive aesthetic direction. Today, we’re pleased to expand the collection with new versions and materials that bring another dimension to the Chronomaster Sport.”
