2022 Tag Heuer New Generation Connected Watch – Calibre E4

by Chamath Gamage

TAG Heuer today is launching the latest generation of timepieces for the brand’s Connected Collection, being built to deliver the ultimate elegance and sporting performance experience. The Connected Watch Calibre E4 will be launched in two model variants; in 42mm version and 45mm version. The release of these two watches expresses TAG Heuers desire to keep growing and updating its ever-growing ecosystem of sports activities, wellness apps, and different watch faces, ever since the Connected model’s first release back in 2015.

TAG Heuer has a long-standing history with sporting models, and they have used this expertise to make the 45mm model a sportier version, whereas the smaller 42mm version is designed with more elegance.

In regards to the creation of these new Connected Calibre E4 timepieces, Frédéric Arnault, CEO TAG Heuer, states that ‘‘with these two new, very different Connected watches, we hope to bring a new generation of TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 to a wider range of customers, becoming a companion in their daily lives: from business to sports activities to the most elegant dinners. Since 2015, TAG Heuer has been a pioneer in the luxury connected watch sector. The development of these new watches highlights how Connected has become a pillar of TAG Heuer, alongside Aquaracer and Carrera, building on 160 years of Swiss watchmaking experience.

Design:

With the new 42mm model being designed with elegance in mind, it’s perfect for office wear, functions, and even while playing sports. The 42mm model comes with a thinner case, ergonomic steel pushers, and a thin bezel. The straps and bracelets have also been designed so that they are integrated into the watch seamlessly.

The 45mm timepiece however has a significant design change from previous models. Incorporating design codes from traditional mechanical watches, the 45mm model features a strong ceramic bezel.

The crown has also been given a larger diameter, and protrudes out more from the watch, making it easier to rotate and handle. The watch itself also slopes inwards, making it feel lighter and giving it more comfortable wear on the wrist. The chronograph pushers have now also been given a more mechanical feel to them, taking cues and references from TAG Heuer’s extensive range of chronograph models.

A variety of watch faces are available in the new Connected Calibre E4 models. This includes watch faces from TAG Heuer’s rich watchmaking history from sports models to luxury elegant models, there is a wide variety of watch faces to suit all tastes. New watch faces have been added as well. Some of these include the new “Riverside” watch face which has an animated immersive futuristic effect of time elapsing. Another new watch face is the “Wellness” face, which offers information on exercise directly on the home screen dial. This includes information such as live heart rate and also the number of steps taken that day.

New digital information has also been added to the latest Connected Caliber E4 models, with them now delivering up-to-the-moment information on weather, wellness, and calendar events. More watch faces will also become available throughout the year.

TAG Heuer has taken fitness to the next level with their TAG Heuer Sports app, which now delivers guided workout routines, along with industry-leading fitness information and sports tracking that can all be monitored from this latest Connected Caliber E4 model. The brand’s sports app has been re-done to now allow users to be able to keep track of running (indoor or outdoor), cycling, swimming, golf, and walking performance.

Technology:

TAG Heuer has updated the technology driving this new Connected watch, including the screen to deliver optimal performance all around. The new screen offers industry-leading quality and contrast especially outdoors where sunlight can have a poor effect on the visibility of the dial/screen. The strong contrast ratio used on the screen means that sports metrics for example will remain visible on the screen. The high-fidelity colour reproduction ensures that the watch faces are seen exactly as they are meant to be seen.

The 45mm model now offers up to 30% longer battery life compared to previous-gen models. TAG Heuer states that “on the 45mm model, users can enjoy a full day of battery life, even with five hours of using the golf functions. On the 42mm model, users can enjoy a full day using the wellness app before the battery runs out.” Synchronizing data from watch to phone is also twice as quick as previous models thanks to Bluetooth 5.0 being utilised.

Another new feature of these Connected Caliber E4 models is the new altimeter, which measures the altitude of the wearer’s current location. This helps the data readings from outdoor activities such as cycling and running become a lot more accurate. The altimeter is the latest feature to be added alongside the existing accelerometer, heart rate monitor, compass, and GPS.

This new generation of Connected watches currently operates on Wear OS by Google™. On the launch of the watch, the Connected Calibre E4 models will run on Wear OS 2. For users of this timepiece, they will have the option to upgrade to Wear OS 3.0 when it comes available at zero cost.

Built by TAG Heuer to deliver the ultimate in elegance and performance, the new 42mm and 45mm timepieces are the latest models for the brand’s pioneering Connected collection.
